Snapchat Threatens Employees with Jail over Leaked Information

The memo from Snapchat was originally obtained by Cheddar, who accept published it in its entirety. As part of its 'zero-tolerance' policy, any employee found to be leaking data to the media is liable to not merely lose their job, but as well face lawsuits, both of the ceremonious and criminal variety.

"You can face personal fiscal liability even if you yourself did not benefit from the leaked data. The authorities, our investors, and other third parties can as well seek their own remedies against you for what you disclosed. The regime can even put you in jail"

The memo also suggested what kind of advice may be considered a breach. "This (the rule) applies to outright leaks and any breezy "off the record" conversations with reporters, besides as any confidential information you permit slip to people who are non authorized to know that information."

Leaking of information in the media has become an increasingly sensitive topic of late. In the world of engineering science, no company has been known to go to more than extreme lengths than Apple to protect internal developments.

As this piece in The Outline says, Apple tree uses investigators effectually the world and goes to farthermost lengths to protect its secrets. "Some of these investigators have previously worked at U.South. intelligence agencies like the National Security Agency (NSA), law enforcement agencies like the FBI and the U.S. Secret Service, and in the U.South. military." Ironically, this information was obtained through leaked audio recordings.

Snap Inc's hard stance seems to stem from leaks which were published in The Daily Beast. That piece revealed secrets such as user metrics of the app, only also mentioned "the company has go then privacy-obsessed information technology blocks access to its own app at parties and events." It'due south articulate that the IPO and the refuse in the app's fortune which followed shortly later on has pushed Snap to the edge of, well, snapping. Whether this latest memo will actually cease leaks is another matter birthday
